Baking Adventures

When I was pregnant with my first child, I found that I love baking and I’m quite good at it. Now with 2 kids, I still bake, but I often forget to capture the process or final product.

So, here’s what I did for some family birthdays.

My son asked for a pink and purple cupcake train for his second birthday. I made everything from scratch and was exhausted after putting it all together. Moving forward I’m trying to bring more joy into my baking and letting go of perfection. Because perfection really puts a damper on my creative fun.

Then for this third birthday, I made a chocolate construction themed cake with donut skyscrapers. At first, my perfectionist started beating me up about how unprofessional it looked, haha. I laugh because I’m an amateur baker and I enjoy the process more than the final product. My son looked at it and said, “Wow mommy, it’s perfect! I love it!”. And so, my heart melted, and more perfection melted away with it.

Our daughter just turned 1 in June! I was on a rainbow kick (still am) and made her a rainbow design out of mini cupcakes. I can’t remember how many she ate but I’m sure it was more than 6. My son helped me crack the eggs and mix the batter. Honestly, it’s more fun baking with him because it’s something we can enjoy together. Then, of course, there are other times when I like to bake alone because I get into this meditative state and it’s enjoyable seeing it all come together.

As I find more lost images of past baking creations, I’ll share them with you. For now, I’d love to see what you create whether it’s baking or cooking. You can tag me on IG at @ljnsouza.
